FACTSHEET:
PTSD and Physical Health
Exposure to traumatic events such as military combat, physical and sexual abuse, and natural disaster, can be related to poor physical health. Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) is also related to health problems. This fact sheet provides information on the relationships between trauma, PTSD, and physical health; specific health problems associated with PTSD; health-risk behaviors and PTSD; mechanisms that help explain how PTSD and physical health could be related; and a clinical agenda to address PTSD and health.

National Sexual Violence Resource CenterThe National Sexual Violence Resource Center (NSVRC) is pleased to offer materials on CD ROM for the creation of Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM) posters. It includes those elements you will need to produce your own posters and customize them to your campaign with your own contact information. We provide two sample posters to give you an idea of how they will look. This CD also provides a template for a Spanish version of the posters. We have taken steps to ensure that your organization is able to personalize and print these materials, either by using your own computers or a professional printer. The materials for the posters are available in a variety of file formats, colors and sizes which may be used by you with the appropriate software, or taken to a professional printer. Do not be concerned if you do not have or are not familiar with these programs and files. By providing this CD to a professional printer you should be able to produce customized posters at a fairly reasonable cost. The file formats available are JPG, a graphic file which can be placed in Quark, Publisher, PageMaker or other desktop publishing applications, and PDF which may also be placed in Quark or used with Adobe Acrobat Reader. (Any file ending in PDF may be opened with Adobe Acrobat Reader.) An installation of Acrobat Reader for Microsoft Windows is included on this CD. For other operating systems, please visit the Adobe site at www.adobe.com to download this free application. Four poster options are included for your organization to use:

Karen Carroll-Coleman
"When someone says 'I've been raped' the most important words in the world to say are 'I believe you'. If a survivor doesn't hear that from anyone else, she or he is going to hear it from me."
