Extensions of the Criminal & Civil Statutes of Limitations in Child Sexual Abuse Cases

Most states have laws limiting the time during which crimes other than murder may be prosecuted. All states have time limitations for bringing a lawsuit to recover money for damages from the wrongdoing of another -- a civil action. In recent years, many states have adopted extensions to their criminal and civil statutes of limitation for cases of child sexual abuse and in certain other sexual assault cases. Survivors of sexual assault, and child sexual abuse including:
  • all ages +13
  • females and male
  • non-offending parents.
  • undocumented immigrants
  • gay, lesbian, transgender or questioning

Fees for services:

Free services through NYS CVB

Medical Services

  • 24-hour 7 day a week coverage in the Emergency Department. Social workers available 9-6 PM and rape crisis counselors available on-call evenings and weekends
  • Medical forensic examination including HIV, STI prophylaxis and pregnancy prevention treatment.

Advocacy:

  • Criminal justice advocacy.

Counseling:

  • Short-term and Long-term individual and group therapy

Other Services:

  • Information and referral services.

Educational / Training Services

  • Community education.
  • Police sensitivity trainings.
  • Professional trainings.

Volunteer Opportunities:

Sexual Assault Response Advocacy

Special Considerations

  • Parental consent may be required for adolescents receiving medical treatment but not counseling treatment.
  • We respect client confidentiality.
