This forum also served as the December NYC Child Abuse Taskforce Meeting. This forum examined ways in which SAFE exams and Child Abuse Assessments can foster positive health outcomes (or prevent negative outcomes) for victims of sexual violence. (December 1, 2006)

Adolescents’ Responses to Sexual Abuse Evaluation Including the Use of Video Colposcopy

Martin Finkel, D.O., FACOP, FAAP, Professor of Pediatrics and Medical Director of CARES (Child Abuse Research Education & Service) Institute, University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey School of Osteopathic Medicine.

Dr. Martin Finkel was the first clinician to introduce colposcopy on the east coast for the evaluation of the sexually abused child and authored the first paper in the medical literature on the healing chronology of acute anogenital trauma as a result of sexual abuse. He has been a leader in the development of services for abused children in New Jersey where he co-chairs the Governor's Task Force on Child Abuse and Neglect and is a founding commissioner of the Children's Trust Fund. Fostering Positive Health Outcomes After the Forensic Exam

Karen Carroll moderated a discussion about the mental health benefits of procedures like video colposcopy and the SAFE exam and how SAFEs can best foster positive health outcomes (or prevent negative health outcomes) vis a vis the SAFE exam.
