Rape Crisis Training Institute: Save the Date: RCTI Workshop on Participatory Research Methods
The date for this training has passed. The information below is from our archive.
Description
Community based research (CBR) can be a powerful tool for service providers and program developers. CBR is based on the premise that meaningful involvement of stakeholders, -- from 'clients' to partners to the wider community -- increases the success and strengthens the impact of all our programs. And, increasingly, funders and oversite agencies are requesting an "evidenced based approach" as we design prevention and intervention efforts and set program and advocacy priorities.
In this workshop we will learn simple tools that you can use to quickly gather the best thinking of any group. Participatory appraisal (PA) tools such as Mapping, Listing and Ranking, Causal Flows and Problem Trees have wide application in assessing social situations and in monitoring and evaluating policies and programs. Familiarity with community based research methods such as focus groups and participatory research tools can sharpen your prevention and intervention efforts for maximum impact.
This is an experiential workshop where you will not only learn participatory research techniques but will also have the opportunity to experience these tools first hand in focus group settings as part of a New York City Alliance Against Sexual Assault research project into the needs of undocumented women immigrants and sexual violence.
