Recent evidence suggests that psychological assistance can prevent or greatly reduce the severity of PTSD. Health care providers must be able to accurately identify PTSD and establish referral procedures. Possible behavioral health risks and psychosocial problems associated with PTSD are detailed.

The information below is from our archive.DescriptionThis training will assist Rape Crisis Centers and other professionals with innovative strategies in working with adolescents both in a clinical setting and with developing curricula for prevention education programs. This day and a half training will begin with a keynote followed by several workshops. April 8th from 1-3pm we will be hosting a post-conference workshop on male survivors. Agenda:

10:30-12NOON: General Session: The Integration of Popular Music for Sexual Assault Risk Reduction. Presenter Laura Zarate will illustrate and discuss the power of using music to make a point, stimulate discussion, exemplify a problem, present an alternative, or identify consequences. By validating dating equity, personal boundaries, sexual autonomy and responsibility, songs can be used in a group context to promote respect and healthy relationships amongst adolescents. Laura Zarate, Founder of Arte Sana, a national sexual violence resource sharing bi-lingual (Spanish/English) platform for Spanish –speaking communities in the U.S and abroad. 1:30-3:30PM: BY POPULAR DEMAND - MALE SURVIVOR INSTITUTE Directly following the Adolescent training NYSCASA has made available, due to the responses from the Rape Crisis Training Institute Survey, a clinical session on male survivors. Presenter John Crowe, MS,CRC,BCSA will discuss REAL MEN REAL WOUNDS: THE JOURNEY OF HEALING FOR MALE SURVIVORS OF SEXUAL ASSAULT. John Crowe is currently in partnership with NYSCASA via the Building Connections Project, has over 22 years of experience providing therapeutic and educational services to individuals who have experience trauma. John is also in private clinical practice and presented on survivor issues at conferences and workshop throughout the United States. Please make sure to indicate on the registration form if you will be attending this session.
