We are dedicating this year's RCTI series to helping ensure the New York City Rape Crisis Programs are prepared for the shift in funding which will require a more dedicated focus on primary prevention of sexual violence. What are hopeful that through these workshops, technical assistance, and plenty of collaborative planning, we will arrive at a sound citywide prevention strategy - a strategy driven by the insights of local Rape Crisis Programs and the communities they serve.
This series will kick off on February 1st, and the second session will be Tuesday, March 20th. The remaining two trainings will be on Thursday May 10th and Thursday July 19th.
The first two trainings will be held at the New York City Alliance Against Sexual Assault, 27 Christopher Street, in the West Village.
Anyone is welcome to attend these workshops. However, you might find it most efficient if your organization chooses participants who have some experience with program design, strategic planning, or program evaluation. Staff with experience in community outreach and training development would also be good choices.
It will be important for workshop participants to have the opportunity to share what they learn in the workshop with the rest of your organization in order to discuss and plan prevention programming. Technical assistance from the Alliance will be available between workshops to assist in such planning. Ideally, at least one participant from your organization will be able to attend all four trainings, though we know this sort of consistency may be impossible due to other scheduling imperatives.
Please contact Tami to register: [1] tpollak@nycagainstrape.org. Workshops are free for individuals who work for a NYS-DOH funded rape crisis program, and $50 per training for participants from other programs. However, we do not want cost to pose a barrier to participation, so please contact Tami to discuss any concerns.
Lydia Guy, Prevention Services Director for the Washington Coalition of Sexual Assault Programs, will be facilitating the first workshop. More details will be available shortly.
If you have other questions, please don't hesitate to call or write Tamara Pollak
