The workshop helped participants to identify key players in New York City schools, major challenges in marketing to schools and strategies to overcome them. The difficulties in gaining access to schools and strategies to gain access were discussed, as were the dynamics of sex crimes in schools and the typical school response to a sex crime that is committed in a school or against a student outside of school. The presenters worked with participants address challeges in determining objectives and strategy; developing a strategic approach including basic/standard methods, targeted/specific methods; networking and network development; and developing creative approaches to marketing. HENRY R. MURPHY, C.P.P.

Henry R. Murphy, CPP has twenty years of work experience with the New York City Police Department where he served as a patrolman, sergeant, and lieutenant. From 1976 to 1992 Mr. Murphy served as the Chief of Operations and Deputy Director for the Division of School Safety for the New York City Public School District – the country’s largest school district. His responsibilities included the provision of security services to the over one million children, 200,000 personnel, and 1100 buildings by managing the deployment of the largest school safety and security force in the world. Mr. Murphy was involved in the conceptualization and implementation of the first accredited School Safety Training Academy in the country; he served as the primary legal advisor in adapting criminal penal and procedural law enforcement into a public school context. Mr. Murphy has written two books and several articles on school security.
In addition to his duties as the Chief Operating Officer of School Safety Professionals, LLC, Mr. Murphy conducts risk assessments and loss prevention surveys to identify vulnerabilities and provide information that will reduce the probability of injuries, property loss, vandalism, and civil liability. He provides expert testimony/consultation relating to schools and the security of other facilities in civil tort cases.
