Alliance: Sexual Assault Health and Forensic Services Training Institute (SAFETI)
Sexual Assault Health and Forensic Services Training Institute (SAFETI)
The purpose of the New York City Sexual Assault Health and Forensic Services Training Institute (SAFETI) is to systematically develop and revise citywide curricula and training materials to use as standards across the city. SAFETI also manages training and professional development activities for SAFE certification and continuing medical education programs.
SAFETI consists of two groups. The Curriculum Committee oversees credit requirements, instruction improvement, curriculum standards, and evaluation of new programs and other subjects related to SAFE training policy and curriculum. The Management Office plans, develops, and administers programs and activities as agreed upon with the Curriculum Committee and represents SAFETI's interests at city, state, and national levels.
The Health and Forensic Services Program at the Alliance seeks to develop Sexual Assault Health Care as a specialty area. The Alliance has collaborated with the New York State Department of Health and other public agencies in creating SAFE standards as well as the SAFE certification course and exam; however the Alliance believes it is essential that clinicians, practitioners, and responders maintain and develop great expertise in the use of new practices, methodology, and techniques. Towards this end, the Alliance is creating professional development opportunities, through Advanced Certification, Continuing Medical Education, or Continuing Professional Development programs.
