New York Reads Together: About
Speak is the recipient of numerous literary awards and was selected as the 2005 book for the New York Reads Together (NYRT) program. New York Reads Together is a program of New York Women’s Agenda, a nonprofit, non-partisan, tax-exempt coalition of New York City women’s organizations and individuals. The concept of New York Reads Together is simple -- mobilize the entire city to engage in discussion of one particularly wonderful book by empowering New York’s families, friends, neighbors, co-workers, schools, educators, intellectuals, book clubs, congregations, and community groups to hold discussions with one another and express their thoughts about the book and its subject matters.
The NYRT program is partnering with the NYC Department of Education, The New York City Alliance Against Sexual Assault, the New York City Libraries, Seton Hall University, and a number of other city agencies to offer book discussions with students and launch dating violence and sexual assault awareness campaigns.
