Who?
Are you a rape crisis advocate?
Are you an anti-violence activist?
Are you a survivor?
Are you a friend of a survivor?
Are you someone who wants to end sexual violence?
If you identify with any of these, then you probably understand that sexual violence affects your life, your family, your friends, and society as a whole. We think you should have a say about how to end it. The Alliance believes that you are an expert of your own experience, that you are qualified to create, develop and put into action the means to prevent sexual violence.
.
What? A one-of-a-kind grassroots project! By uniting NYC activists into a compelling voice for change, NOT IN OUR CITY will end sexual violence in NYC.
Where? New York City! Transformation and positive social change begins locally. The New York Foundation, which generously provided the seed funds for NOT IN OUR CITY, believes that the vitality of its neighborhoods is the city's greatest resource. For more information on the New York Foundation go to [2] www.nyf.org.
Why? The [3] recent history of the rape crisis movement has been centered on intervention and harm reduction. NOT IN OUR CITY believes that the roots of sexual violence are systemic and institutionalized. In order to offer hope and strategies to ending sexual violence, in addition to caring for our survivors, our purpose is to create a movement of activists who will directly challenge the cultural and societal beliefs that perpetuate sexual violence and the oppressions that result in sexual violence.
