New Organizing Project
The New York Foundation recently awarded the Alliance a grant for a grassroots organizing initiative. The project is designed to provide an additional channel for advocates to fight against sexual violence. The program will also serve rape crisis programs as a retention strategy with advocate enthusiasm nurtured and maintained. We are proud to present Christine St. John, a former advocate herself, who will spearhead the mobilization. Among her many accomplishments, Christine organized a campaign that recruited more than 200 men into the fight against rape in New Hampshire.
Strengthening Alliances
The Alliance for Women's Equality (AWE) has chosen the Alliance for an Advantage Partnership Grant. The funding provides for a year of technical assistance in such areas as development, donor cultivation and communications. We have already met with the impressive team of professionals - women at the top of their fields - to develop strategies to ensure our financial sustainability.
Brainstorming on Prevention
In November the Alliance brought together collaborators in the anti-sexual violence community in New York City to brainstorm about ideas on prevention. The half-day workshop began with a presentation by Susan McGuire, an expert in social marketing and behavior change with the Academy for Educational Development. A lively brainstorming session followed as participants envisioned what prevention of sexual violence in the city really means. Targeting youth and the media emerged as recurrent themes.
