Newsletter: Fall 2004: Ask the Alliance

Dear Alliance,

I received an awful email (I don't know how) advertising a “fantasy forced sex website with real rape scenes.”  My blood is still boiling.  I have a wife, daughter and mother who I would go to jail for if anyone ever touched them against their will.  I wrote back and told them that what they advertised was sick.  Is there anything else I can do?

Dear Jeff,

We see things like this every day, and like you we are disgusted each time. One thing you can do is report unsolicited commercial email, or ‘spam,’ to your Internet Service Provider (e.g. AOL or Earthlink).  You can also alert the Federal Trade Commission by forwarding the e-mail to [1] uce@ftc.gov.  Spam related to child pornography should be reported to the US Customs Service at 1-800-BE-ALERT or the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children at 1-800-843-5678, or contact the Customs Service CyberSmuggling Center at [2] C3@customs.treas.gov.

But you’ve already done the most important thing, by writing the producers of the website and telling them you believe what they are doing is wrong. Unfortunately, so many people are silent when they see this kind of material.  I congratulate you for taking action.  If we all speak out against rape, we can stop the violence.
