Newsletter: January 2004: Program AnnouncementsCAMBA establishes new rape crisis program in BrooklynCAMBA, Inc.'s Comprehensive Rape Crisis Intervention and Prevention Education Services Program (CRCIPES) provides free and confidential services to victims and survivors of rape, sexual assault, sexual abuse, and incest as well as to their families and friends. Our services include crisis counseling; individual and group counseling; accompaniment to medical facilities, precincts, courts, and the District Attorney's Office; advocacy; emergency assistance; information and referrals, and assistance with filing compensation claims with the Crime Victims Board. The program offers workshops in the community, training to professionals, and sensitivity training to medical and law enforcement staff. Counseling is provided in English, French, and Haitian Creole. Located at 885 Flatbush Avenue, Brooklyn, NY 11226. Office hours are Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Crisis counseling is available 24 hours/7 days. Toll free hotline Number: 1-800-310-2449. DCJS releases new Drug Facilitated Sexual Assault kit The Division of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS) has released a standardized Drug Facilitated Sexual Assault (DFSA) evidence collection kit. The kit is composed of two grey-topped blood tubes and a urine container for collection of specimens. The kit also contains instructions for use, a laboratory information form, and a consent form for authorization of release. Hospitals may receive the kits free of charge from DCJS by calling the Violence Against Women Unit at (518) 457-9726. Also available are laminated posters detailing signs and symptoms of DFSA and providing instructions on what to do if such a case presents itself. DCJS encourages programs to post this in their hospital emergency rooms or local sex crimes units.
