The Barnard-Columbia Rape Crisis/Anti-Violence Support Center: Lecture: Gender-based Violence as a Bias Crime

Organization: The Barnard-Columbia Rape Crisis/Anti-Violence Support Center

Description:

The Barnard-Columbia Rape Crisis/Anti-Violence Support Center, in conjunction with the Men’s Peer Education Program, both part of the Sexual Violence Prevention and Response Program, cordially invites you to attend the 3rd Annual Clery Lecture on the evening of Wednesday, March 12th, featuring Susan J. Brison, professor of philosophy at Dartmouth College and author of the book Aftermath: Violence and the Remaking of the Self.

Professor Brison will address our society's reluctance to view sexual violence against women as a group-based form of victimization, and how reconceptualizing sexual violence against women as a bias crime gives us a more thorough understanding of its causes and more useful strategies for working towards its elimination. This event is free and open to the public. There will be a question-and-answer session following her lecture.

The Clery Lecture will take place on March 12th at 7pm in the Held Auditorium (304 Barnard Hall). Barnard College is located at W. 117th Street and Broadway. For more information, please visit:
