Couple Charged With Another Murder Responded to by Amanda Atwood
Dear Editor (New York Times)

Thank you for your article "Mo. Couple Charged with Another Murder) of 4 October 2006.

Largely, the article does well to refer to sexual assault for what it is, and correctly identifies the attacks on Michelle Ricci and Marsha Spicer as rape. However, I am disappointed by the references to the videotapes as "violent sex scenes" showing Spicer being "beaten, raped
and strangled during sex with the couple." Rape is not sex. Spicer was allegedly assaulted, raped and eventually murdered by the accused couple. She did not "have sex" with them.

Sincerely,

Amanda Atwood
